Alison Beaton, PT - Physiotherapist in Cole Harbour

Alison Beaton (she/her) works with general orthopaedic clients and athletes of all levels to optimize their movements in sport and in life. Alison combines her specialized training in manual and manipulative therapy with movement pattern and muscle imbalance retraining to promote rapid, safe, and effective recovery from injuries and chronic stress.

Her extensive experience with elite athletes includes current Olympians, Canadian National Teams, Cirque du Soleil and Broadway performers. She owns Scotia Physiotherapy, is a member of the Integrated Health Services team for Triathlon Canada and the IST lead for Surf Canada, formerly Canada Freestyle Ski. She works locally with Dance NS, Neptune theatre in Halifax and visiting Broadway productions.

Alison graduated from Dalhousie University in 2003, completed an Advanced Diploma of Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Therapy in 2009, a Masters of Clinical Science in Manipulative Therapy (Western) in 2012 and a Diploma of Sport Physiotherapy in 2014 . Alison teaches within the Canadian Physiotherapy Association post-graduate Orthopaedic course system, as well as in the School of Physiotherapy and Department of Anatomy at Dalhousie University. She is the past chair of the Nova Scotia Orthopaedic Section and of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Orthopaedic Division.

Alison’s passion for physical fitness and optimizing movement patterning is not limited to the clinic. She is active in running, surfing, functional fitness and travels extensively as a therapist and for recreation.

I am a dedicated physiotherapist with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities, New Delhi, India. My career began in India, where I worked in a long-term care facility and as a consultant, treating patients with a wide range of conditions, from musculoskeletal to neurological.

I gained valuable experience providing virtual care, which enabled me to connect with and treat patients across the globe. To enhance my expertise, I completed a certificate course in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, further strengthening my clinical skills and evidence-based approach.

Carolyn is the founder of Cole harbour Physio & Rehab, graduated with her BSc(Hon) Biology in 1983, and worked in the fitness industry for 7 years, which is where she found her passion for Physiotherapy. “I saw people after amputations, with spinal cord injuries, and post neurological issues trying to exercise and I knew little to help them. I had met several Physiotherapists over the years who had inspired me and finally felt I had found my calling”. Carolyn returned to Dalhousie University in 1990 and graduated in May of 1993. Carolyn’s career as a Physiotherapist started at the Moncton Hospital where she gained experience in a broad range of areas such as burns and plastics, acute orthopaedics, neuro rehabilitation, and cardio respiratory physiotherapy. She worked with people post surgery, amputation, in palliative care and also in the outpatient setting, this gave her an excellent background to move into private practice where she worked for the Renova group for 5 years before opening Cole Harbour Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation centre Inc in 2003. Carolyn grew the business from herself as sole physiotherapist and a reception to the staff of 12 it is today, including 3 Physiotherapist, 2 massage therapists, a Kinesiologist. Physiotherapy assistants and administrative staff. Purchasing the current building and moving into it was a huge step for Carolyn in 2008, but one she has never regretted. The building was further renovated to allowed growth and rebranding to Cole Harbour Physio & Rehab of the business in 2018. Carolyn continues to treat patients approximately half time while running the business. Her skill in muscle balance and exercise therapy, acupuncture, manual therapy and education have stood the test of time and she has a large number of return cliental who appreciate her now over 30 years of experience. Morgan King (She/Her) is a dietitian that works with athletes of all levels to optimize their sport nutrition health and performance. Her philosophy is to foster healthy relationships between individuals and food that prioritizes health first. Her experience in sport nutrition comes from her working with athletes at the Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic, Acadia Sport Nutrition, Dalhousie Football and Various club teams in Nova Scotia.

Hello! My name is Emily Rasmussen, and I’m a Kinesiologist and Physiotherapy Assistant at Cole Harbour Physio & Rehab. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from Acadia University, as well as a Diploma in Sport & Leisure Management (Kinesiology specialization) from Holland College.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, I grew up participating in a variety of sports—including soccer, which I played at the Division II University level while attending Holland College.

I am passionate about helping others and supporting their recovery. In the clinic, you’ll often find me guiding patients through their rehabilitation programs and assisting our physiotherapists to ensure smooth, effective care.
